Cutts EP - March 4th, 2016

We're very pleased to announce that our debut EP "Cutts" is now in production, and will be available on CD and in online stores on March 4th!  "Cutts" was recorded in the historic Cutts Mansion in Portsmouth, NH, hence the name.  The EP showcases Down With Me's early songs, finely tuned acoustic numbers with dark undertones.  So buy it on iTunes, stream it on Spotify, or order a CD in our online store, all on March 4th, 2016.  (Down With Me chose this release date to honor one of their greatest influences, Richard Manuel of The Band, who passed away 30 years ago on March 4th, 1986.)  RIP.

Cutts

At the corner of Maplewood Avenue and Cutts Street, a mansion on a hill overlooks the town of Portsmouth, NH.  Built in 1805, the historic Cutts Mansion is no stranger to folklore and strange tales.  Edward Cutts, its first inhabitant, was the son of Captain Samuel Cutts, a wealthy Portsmouth merchant and proud patriot.  Paul Revere once rode to Portsmouth with a message for Captain Cutts to warn of a British siege in nearby Newcastle.  Edward and his family lived here after he had it built.  Of Edward's seven children, only three survived into adulthood.  Edward lived here until his death in 1824, at which point his son Hampden took up residence.  Hampden and his wife had 9 children, 5 of which did not reach adulthood.  After Hampden, the house left the family.

The Cutts Mansion is the subject of many myths and stories.  Trap doors in cabinets, secret passageways from closets, and other hidden escapes are said to have led to a system of tunnels that ran beneath the mansion.  Some tunnels ran to a stable in the backyard , and others are said to have went as far as Cutts Cove on the Atlantic Ocean.

From July through December 2015, we've been lucky enough to get to set up and record in this historic mansion.  In a huge living room, complete with marble fireplace and massive ceilings, we set out to capture our sounds.  The room adds a haunting reverberation to the recordings, and sets a mood that is unlike that of present day.  The Cutts Mansion plays a big part in our upcoming EP, so we decided that we will honor it with the title "Cutts."

An Update For 2015

Two thousand fourteen is done, the holiday cheer is over, and our lives are all back to normal.  Normal now is working our lives away, waiting for some free time to get together for music-making.  You see, the music-making is tougher than ever now, because we are all scattered around the state of New Hampshire now.  Soon, though, we will all be back in the seacoast area and we'll be able to put things back in motion.

Once we are back into the swing of things, we will have some studio tracks available for you. These tracks have been in the works for quite a few months now, so we're excited to get them done.

Not only will we release these tracks that have long been in the works, but we plan on writing and recording a 10 song album during the month of February as our contribution to the RPM Challenge.  The RPM Challenge began in the NH seacoast area, and is now a worldwide phenomenon, involving musicians from all corners of the globe challenging themselves to record a full album during the shortest month of the year.  We hope the time constraints will help us release some music that would have never been otherwise.

That is all for now...

-Jimmy
